Matsue Suigosai (Water Festival) 松江 水郷祭 (島根)

If your travel tour of Japan includes Shimane 島根 this summer, don't miss out on some of the wonderful festivals. The Matsue Water Festival, or Matsue Suigosai 松江　水郷祭 is one of the most exciting and vibrant events in the San-in area of Japan.  It is held at the beginning of August every year over Lake Shinji 宍道湖 and boasts roughly 9000 bursts of fireworks.

The beautiful city of Matsue is situated next to Lake Shinji and a beautiful system of bridges separate the North and South parts of the city. At Suigosai, the fireworks are spectacular as they light up Lake Shinji over two nights. The crowds are enormous for the festival, you would think you're in a big city like Osaka for those two nights. The Matsue Suigosai takes place annually in early August.
