We at Sanintabi! agree that your Japan travel / tour through Tottori 鳥取 and the Sanin 山陰 region is not complete without a visit to an Onsen / Hot spring.

Rapispa ラピスパ is located just off the start of the expressway to Tottori 鳥取 from Yonago 米子. It has Onsen / Hot spring facilities combined with Pool facilities.

The outdoor bath is extensively large with several pools. It has a modern feel as the Onsen / Hot spring pools resemble swimming pools and are not like the traditional rock or wooden baths. There is a dry sauna located outside in the outdoor bath area and next to it a cold water plunge pool. Sanintabi! found it to be uncomfortable crossing the snow covered pavement outside to get to the dry sauna. However, entering the cold plunge pool lined with snow after emerging from the sauna was quite invigorating.

Inside, Rapispa ラピスパ also features a “Healing Space” 「癒しの間」where soft music and simulated natural sounds of water falling accompany minus ions, dim light and a lukewarm bath with shallow areas to stretch out and lie down.

Just outside the relaxation space are “Sauna Capsules”. When you enter one of these sauna devices inside is a seat with control handles. You close the lid and only your head is exposed to the outside room. Adjusting the handles produces steam inside the capsule. Sanintabi! recommends taking care not to get burned by sitting too close to hot steam outlets inside the capsule.
